Our People
So why work for Carl Zeiss?

Joe Redner (Managing Director Australasia)
Definitely for the challenge. We expect an awful lot from our team because our customers expect an awful lot of us. Our job at Carl Zeiss Australasia is to provide the best service, support and advice that we can, to enable our customers to provide better patient care and to perform ever more sophisticated research. That’s a job which has our folks running flat out all of the time, every day. We know that we have to work harder and perform better than any of our competitors to fulfill our customers’ high expectations. That’s the promise of the ZEISS brand.

For myself, I am absolutely passionate about working for Carl Zeiss. I love its fascinating heritage and the values and ideals for which the company stands. Of course, I’m also a huge fan of the Zeiss’ technological creativity, and I’m constantly amazed at the ideas and innovations it produces.

I also love the family atmosphere of the company. Over the past 10 years, I’ve worked with Carl Zeiss in the US and for Carl Zeiss in Germany and in Australasia. I’ve met a great many colleagues from all over the globe and I take pleasure, comfort and pride in the fact that ‘Zeissianers’ tend to stay for a long time. This creates both a sense of camaraderie and purpose within the company and keeps us focused on the future, but mindful of our past.

Locally, we’re lucky to have a group of fun, competitive and determined people who make me laugh and impress me in some way every day. We’ve evolved a great deal over the past 6 years and have largely reinvented ourselves into a much more customer oriented company than may have been in the past. I know that we still have a way to go (in fact, it’s a never ending process), but it’s great to hear from customers that we’re making progress.

To support our goal of delighting our customers, we’ve attempted to bring on the best people we can. We look for people who are motivated, organized, committed and driven. To be frank, most people think they have these characteristics, but they don’t have them to the degree that we require. We hold one another accountable to these behaviors and we push hard to be the best customer service provider and best performer in our markets.

Staff Development

I’m often asked what advancement opportunities our company has. I’m a good example of where one can go. I began my career with Carl Zeiss as a Product Manager in Oberkochen, Germany in May 2000. I’ve been fortunate enough to work my way up through two other positions to reach my current role. But I’m not alone.

With one exception, our entire medical management team began their Carl Zeiss careers as sales staff. One of our Product Managers recently worked for 6 months in Jena, Germany on an exchange program, and we’ve got a Marketing Assistant heading towards to Dublin, CA for a short term exchange. These development and advancement opportunities are possible because of the breadth and depth of the company, but it’s the ability and determination of our staff which makes them happen.

In summary, if you’re looking for a challenge, are dedicated to providing the best customer care and want to be pushed harder than you ever have before, drop us a line at recruit@zeiss.com.au
