Haigis-L for Hypermetropia on IOLMaster
IOLMaster_384x150
Recently, Carl Zeiss rolled out the new Ver. 5.4 software for the biometry standard of care, the IOLMaster. Ver. 5.4 offers a number of new features, the most important of which is the expanded use of the Haigis-L formula.

The Haigis-L formula is unique to the IOLMaster and is designed by Dr. Wolfgang Haigis to be used on patients who have previously undergone LASIK, LASEK or PRK refractive surgery. The most striking feature of this software is that the only data that you need to use for the Haigis-L is that which is measured on the IOLMaster itself. This is a great advantage, especially in patients whose prior refractive surgery history is unknown.

The Haigis-L formula was released on the IOLMaster a few years ago, but it’s use was restricted to patients who had previously undergone myopic refractive surgery. Under this new release, the Haigis-L formula can now be used for previously hypermetropic refractive surgery patients as well.

To use the formula, the user must first select the “Myop” or “Hyperop” button to indicate the patient’s refractive state prior to the refractive surgery. Secondly, a basic assumption of the formula is that the patient data is captured on the IOLMaster, therefore users cannot manually enter in data from other sources.

This new feature builds on top of the already established features of the Ver 5 software including the composite signal for better penetration of media opacity, addition of scanning aids and fast, reliable keratometry.
